Paul Andrews

Company: Family Business Place
Expertise: Family business development, succession planning, the role of non-family members in the business

Having grown up in a family business environment and experiencing first-hand how family relationships can come to the fore in a family business, Paul has also worked very closely with family business clients and their professional advisers for many years.

Since graduating from the University of Exeter Paul qualified as an accountant and gained valuable business experience whilst working at Ernst & Young between 1990 and 1999 where a number of his clients were family businesses.

Paul subsequently joined Grant Thornton where he was a Client Service Director working within the Entrepreneurial Business Services team, one of his roles making him responsible for the development of the PRIMA family business consulting practice for the international member firms within the Grant Thornton network.

This involved the development of family business training programmes, research projects, media activity and training partners around the world, as well as giving presentations and working on client assignments. Paul also developed and launched the family business website familybizz.net as part of this role.

Leaving Grant Thornton in 2004 to become the Managing Director of a family business, Paul gained experience of working with family members whilst being a non-family executive and dealt first hand with matters arising as a result of different generations of a family working together in the business.

He then joined the team at The International Centre for Families in Business (ICFIB), where he has been responsibel for business development and introduced new family business initiatives such as GENERATION Magazine, the UKs only bespoke family business magazine, the Familiarity family business conference and the Family Business Awards.

Paul continues to work too as the owner of his own family business that supplies and repairs commercial catering equipment across the UK.

He is also one of the founding directors of Family Business Place.
